The following is a sampling of the materials developed by Chemeketa faculty and staff during the first phase of their Apple Community College Alliance efforts:
• The Textbook Toolbox—A HyperCard “authoring system” was designed for developers to build interactive, multimedia HyperCard stacks without HyperCard scripting. The program then provides a powerful suite of authoring tools to add text, sound, QuickTime movies, glossary terms, notes, and graphics. The Textbook Toolbox is distributed by Chemeketa Community College. Education pricing is available.
• ¿Que hora es?—A time-telling drill-and-practice template for foreign language or English as a second language instruction. The program randomly displays the time on either a digital or analog clock. The user types in the time and then can check the answer and hear the time pronounced by clicking on the appropriate button.
• NewsFlash—A template used to build electronic newsletters. The editor develops the text of the newsletter in a word processor and then imports the text into this HyperCard template. Newsletters can be illustrated with graphics and sound, and feature useful indexing and find functions. The template is distributed free of charge. Send a formatted disk and a self-addressed, stamped disk envelope to Chemeketa Community College, Project Development Group, 4000 Lancaster Dr., Salem, OR 97305.
• TechnoMenu Safety and Sanitation Manual—An electronic training manual and certification test for food handlers. The manual features an interactive glossary, graphic elements, and practice and review functions. The certification test is Oregon-specific, but the material covered is fairly standard for food handler certification in the United States. This program is marketed by Chemeketa. Call Paul Scoggin at (503) 399-5091 for information.
• Talking Action Stories—An animated series of stories complete with multilingual audio tracks for language instruction. The user may read a story or choose to have the story read in one of several languages. Each story features a comprehension drill in a “game” format for review and practice.
